Basic Surgical Skills Course
Course overview
A two and a half day course to introduce surgical trainees to safe surgical practice within a controlled workshop environment and it aims to teach, assess and certify the ability of trainees to use safe and sound surgical techniques that are common to all forms of surgery.
Who should attend
Doctors who began their basic surgical training on or after 1 August 1996 and are preparing for the MRCS examination and course. Completion of this course is a mandatory requirement for trainees pursing a career in surgery.
The course should be undertaken during the first year of surgical training (CT1) although it is permissible that trainees in foundation years may take part.

You will receive a course handbook, course DVD and certificate of completion, the course will include:
- Open surgery
- Trauma and orthopaedics
- Minimal access surgery
- Hands on practice
- Individual tuition
- Assessment with personal feedback
