GENERIC INSTRUCTORS COURSE VENUE: Academic Centre, The James Cook University Hospital, TS4 3BW

(3 day course) 9 - 11 MARCH 2011
INTRODUCTION The Generic Instructor Course is overseen by the Resuscitation Council (UK) and Advanced Life Support Group. Both organisations have a number of sponsoring Provider Courses that are approved to participate on the course. OBJECTIVE The course is designed to train potential instructors how to teach the Provider Course. ELIGIBILITY Only those Providers who have successfully completed a Provider Course and were recommended by the faculty for instructor training are eligible for a place on the Instructor Course. PRE-COURSE The course is run over 3 days and comprises lecture, demonstrations, discussions and practice stations. A manual and pre-course materials are forwarded one month before the course and the candidate is advised to read these carefully. Whilst the course is designed to teach the candidate how to teach adults effectively, it is essential that the candidate has an excellent core knowledge of the relevant Provider Course. LECTURES There is one main lecture on the subject of Adult Learning. Demonstrations and discussions Demonstrations followed by a critique and discussion are given for the following topics:- Lecture Skills teaching Scenario teaching / role play Assessment of skills and scenarios Open and closed discussion DISCUSSIONS There is also a separate discussion on the Role of the Instructor. Lecture Skills Scenario Closed discussion Skills assessment Scenario assessment ASSESSMENT Assessment on the Instructor Course is continuous in nature. COST £550.00 per candidate which includes all course materials, catering and a candidate meal.
